I’m Alexander Garver, a systems engineer by trade, with three years of experience. Always on the hunt for the next puzzle, my biggest technical weakness is biting off more than I can chew – most often driven by a desire to make an impact.

That desire is rooted in my belief that there’s a lot more to life than work. I believe that the best outcome of my work is a substantial positive impact on people’s lives, as evidenced by my membership in INCOSE and the Order of the Engineer. It’s also what drives my interests outside of work – good food and tabletop games are two of my biggest hobbies, because I believe in the importance of people and relationships.

My Journey

After graduating in the midst of a pandemic, I was given the sound advice to take any technical job to stay in the market. That led me to pitch my Bioengineering degree at Argo AI, a safety-focused level 4 autonomous driving company with a “crucible” strategy to testing their technology. Though I started as a contractor on their operations team, I quickly proved my chops and used my newly developed knowledge of autonomous systems to interview for and get an engineering role in post-release testing.

The downturn in the tech industry led Argo to close its doors in 2022, during which I was laid off. This started a job search, which was extended by a sudden relocation for my wife’s career. The timing was fortuitous, as it gave me an opportunity to be more present for a handful of personal challenges through 2023.

I’ve since found an opportunity to join many of the same colleagues in a new challenge, which has kept me busy for the past year. It’s been an interesting time in the best way, though moving forward I hope to be more attentive to this blog.
